Description

A comforting and cheesy baked spaghetti casserole that’s perfect for family dinners. This dish combines hearty meat sauce, spaghetti, and creamy layers of cheese for a delicious twist on a classic favorite.


Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) meatless pasta sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups 4% cottage cheese
  • 4 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in pasta sauce and seasoned salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, Parmesan cheese and butter. Add the spaghetti and toss to coat.
  4. Place half of the spaghetti mixture in a greased 13×9-in. baking dish. Top with half of the cottage cheese, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers.
  5. Cover and bake at 350°F for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 20-25 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.
  6. Let stand for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ricotta cheese for cottage cheese if preferred.
  • This dish can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta for dietary preferences.
