Description

These Festive Valentine’s Day Pinwheel Cookies are colorful, buttery sugar cookies with a fun swirled design, perfect for celebrating love and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring
  • Valentine-themed sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal parts. Tint one half with food coloring.
  6. Roll each dough half into rectangles of equal size between parchment paper.
  7. Layer the colored dough on top of the plain dough and gently press together.
  8. Roll the layered dough into a log, starting from the long edge.
  9. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour until firm.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  11. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place on prepared sheets.
  12. Optional: Press sprinkles into the edges of the cookies before baking.
  13. Bake for 8–10 minutes until the edges are set but not browned.
  14. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes
