Description
This French Chocolate Flan is a rich, creamy, and elegant dessert with a smooth chocolate custard base, perfect for any special occasion or as a decadent treat.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 2 cups (500ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 4 oz (115g) dark chocolate, chopped
- 3 large eggs
- 2/3 cup (130g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup sugar until it becomes a golden caramel. Quickly pour into a flan mold or baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom. Let it set.
- In another saucepan, heat the milk, cream, and chopped chocolate over medium heat, stirring until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs, 2/3 cup sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Slowly pour the warm chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
- Pour the custard mixture into the caramel-coated mold.
- Place the mold in a larger baking dish filled with hot water (water bath) and bake for about 45–55 minutes, or until the flan is set but slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert onto a serving plate.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
- Make sure to pour the caramel quickly into the mold before it hardens.
- Allow ample chilling time for the best texture and flavor.
