Ingredients
- 1 medium head red cabbage, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until softened.
- Add the diced apples and cook for a few more minutes.
- Stir in the shredded red cabbage and mix well.
- Sprinkle the sugar over the cabbage mixture.
- Pour in the apple cider vinegar and water, then stir to combine.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors are well combined.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, you can add a bay leaf or a dash of ground cloves.
- This dish tastes even better the next day after the flavors have melded.
