Description
These soft and fluffy glazed donuts are made with a rich, yeasted dough and fried to golden perfection before being dipped in a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for a weekend treat or special breakfast.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups (420g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup (180ml) whole milk, warm
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Vanilla Glaze:
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
- ¼ cup (60ml) whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together.
- Add the warm milk, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- Add the softened butter and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, roll to about ½ inch thickness, and cut out donut shapes.
- Place cut donuts on parchment paper, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
- Dip warm donuts into the glaze and let set on a wire rack.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast without killing it.
- You can make the dough ahead and refrigerate overnight for the first rise.
- Use a thermometer to maintain the oil temperature while frying.
- Donuts are best enjoyed the day they are made.
