Description
Golden Greek Honey Pie, or Melopita, is a traditional dessert from the island of Sifnos made with creamy ricotta-like cheese, honey, and a touch of cinnamon. It’s a crustless pie that’s light, sweet, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) ricotta cheese or anthotyro cheese
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup honey (plus more for drizzling)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for dusting)
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, eggs, honey, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest if using.
- Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9-inch pie dish or cake pan.
- Bake for about 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
- Remove from oven and let it cool to room temperature.
- Drizzle with additional honey and sprinkle with cinnamon before serving.
Notes
- Traditional Melopita uses mizithra or anthotyro cheese, but ricotta is a great substitute.
- Can be served warm, chilled, or at room temperature.
- Pairs beautifully with fresh fruit or a dollop of Greek yogurt.
