Description

Golden Greek Honey Pie, or Melopita, is a traditional dessert from the island of Sifnos made with creamy ricotta-like cheese, honey, and a touch of cinnamon. It’s a crustless pie that’s light, sweet, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) ricotta cheese or anthotyro cheese
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup honey (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for dusting)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, eggs, honey, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest if using.
  3. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9-inch pie dish or cake pan.
  5. Bake for about 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  6. Remove from oven and let it cool to room temperature.
  7. Drizzle with additional honey and sprinkle with cinnamon before serving.

Notes

  • Traditional Melopita uses mizithra or anthotyro cheese, but ricotta is a great substitute.
  • Can be served warm, chilled, or at room temperature.
  • Pairs beautifully with fresh fruit or a dollop of Greek yogurt.
