Description

A creamy Sicilian ricotta pie flavored with bright orange zest and warm cinnamon, baked in a buttery crust. This nostalgic Italian dessert is perfect for holidays, family gatherings, or a comforting homemade treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish if not already fitted.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese and sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  4. Stir in the orange zest, orange juice, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until the filling is silky and evenly blended.
  5. Pour the ricotta mixture into the prepared pie crust and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely at room temperature.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before slicing for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use fresh orange zest and juice rather than bottled juice.
  • Allowing the pie to chill helps the ricotta filling set properly and improves texture.
  • If the crust begins to brown too quickly, loosely cover the edges with foil during the final minutes of baking.
  • Serve chilled or slightly cool, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
