Description

This Greek Chicken Gyros recipe features juicy marinated chicken wrapped in warm pita bread with fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki sauce, making it a flavorful and satisfying Mediterranean dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, vinegar, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add chicken to the marinade and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side or until fully cooked and charred in spots.
  4. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly.
  5. Warm pita breads and layer with lettuce, tomato, red onion, sliced chicken, and tzatziki sauce. Top with feta if using.
  6. Fold the pita and serve immediately.

  • Marinate the chicken overnight for best flavor.
  • You can use store-bought or homemade tzatziki sauce.
