Description

This Grilled Caramelized Onion, Blue Cheese, and Apple Butter Flatbread is a sweet and savory gourmet-style dish featuring creamy blue cheese, tangy apple butter, and deeply caramelized onions on a crispy grilled flatbread.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 pieces naan or flatbread
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and salt, and cook slowly for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized. Set aside.
  3. Preheat grill to medium heat.
  4. Brush each piece of naan or flatbread with remaining olive oil on both sides.
  5. Grill flatbreads for 2–3 minutes on each side, until slightly crispy and grill-marked.
  6. Remove from grill and spread each with apple butter.
  7. Top with caramelized onions and crumbled blue cheese.
  8. Return to grill for 2–3 more minutes until cheese is slightly melted.
  9. Remove from grill, sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Apple butter adds a sweet contrast to the tangy blue cheese—feel free to adjust quantities to taste.
  • Use store-bought naan or homemade flatbread as the base.
  • This flatbread can also be made in a grill pan or oven if outdoor grilling isn’t an option.
