Description

These ground turkey tacos are quick, flavorful, and perfect for a weeknight meal, featuring seasoned turkey simmered in a savory sauce and served in warm corn tortillas.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 small onion (finely diced)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 3 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ cup chicken broth (low sodium)
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • 12 to 15 corn tortillas (white or yellow)
  • shredded lettuce
  • shredded cheese
  • guacamole
  • sour cream

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and add the diced onions. Saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the salt and minced garlic and saute for another minute.
  2. Add the ground turkey and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula or wooden spoon.
  3. Add the taco seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Mix to combine.
  4. Add the chicken broth and tomato sauce to the skillet.
  5. Stir well, reduce heat to medium-low, and let simmer for 4 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Meanwhile, warm the tortillas by wrapping them in a damp towel and microwaving for 60 seconds, or wrap in foil and bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Serve the turkey mixture in warm tortillas and top with shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, or desired toppings.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken or beef if preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add chili flakes or hot sauce.
  • Store leftover taco meat in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Warm leftovers with a splash of broth to keep the meat moist.
  • Use whole wheat or low-carb tortillas for a healthier option.
