Description

Sweet and savory Hawaiian hot dogs topped with caramelized pineapple and a tangy sauce, perfect for a quick and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the diced red onion. Cook until softened.
  2. Add the pineapple chunks, brown sugar, soy sauce, and barbecue sauce. Stir and cook until the pineapple is heated through and slightly caramelized.
  3. While the pineapple mixture cooks, grill or heat the hot dogs according to package instructions.
  4. Toast the buns lightly if desired.
  5. Place each hot dog in a bun and top with the warm pineapple mixture.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh pineapple for a brighter flavor, but canned works well for convenience.
  • Add a drizzle of extra barbecue sauce for more sweetness and tang.
  • Try using Hawaiian-style buns for an extra soft and slightly sweet texture.
  • Leftover pineapple topping can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
