Description

A classic Hawaiian comfort food featuring savory pan-fried Spam, fluffy scrambled eggs, and seasoned rice wrapped together with nori into handheld musubi.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked short-grain white rice
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) Spam, sliced into 8 pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed), cut in half

Instructions

  1. Cook the short-grain rice and keep it warm.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk eggs with milk. Scramble eggs in a lightly oiled pan until just set, then remove and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry Spam slices until browned on both sides.
  4. Add soy sauce and sugar to the pan with Spam and cook until the sauce thickens and coats the slices. Remove from heat.
  5. Place a strip of nori shiny-side down. Add a layer of rice, followed by scrambled egg and a slice of Spam.
  6. Add another small layer of rice if desired and wrap tightly with the nori.
  7. Repeat with remaining ingredients and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly cooked rice for best texture.
  • You can brush extra sauce from the Spam onto the rice for more flavor.
  • Musubi can be wrapped in parchment paper for easy handling.
