A moist and naturally sweet banana bread made with whole wheat flour and honey for a healthier twist. Perfect for breakfast or a wholesome snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1.5 cups mashed banana
- ⅓ cup oil or melted butter
- ½ cup honey or maple syrup
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 5×9-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add oil or melted butter, honey or maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and cool for another 20–30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves for extra warm spice flavor.
- Use coconut oil or ghee for a richer taste.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread soft and tender.
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- Can be frozen in slices for up to 2 months.
