Description
These heart-shaped churros are a fun and sweet treat, perfect for sharing love on special occasions like Valentine’s Day. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they are dusted with cinnamon sugar and can be paired with your favorite dipping sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat.
- Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
- Let the dough cool slightly, then transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Pipe heart shapes onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the sheet in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes to help the churros hold their shape.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the churros a few at a time until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a shallow dish. Toss the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar to coat.
- Serve immediately, optionally with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce.
Notes
- Freezing the piped dough helps retain the heart shape during frying.
- Be cautious with hot oil – fry in small batches to maintain temperature.
- Churros are best served fresh and warm.
- Pair with your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
