Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for frosting)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • Food coloring or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with heart-shaped liners or shape liners into hearts.
  2. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
  6. Fill liners about 2/3 full and bake for 18–22 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and let cupcakes cool completely.
  8. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  9. Frost cupcakes and decorate with sprinkles or food coloring as desired.
