Description
A simple homemade cranberry sauce that is sweet, tart, and far better than canned. Perfect for holiday meals and easy to make in minutes.
Ingredients
- 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tsp orange zest
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries and remove any damaged ones.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, orange juice, and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the cranberries and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in orange zest.
- Allow the sauce to cool; it will continue to thicken as it sets.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
- Sauce thickens significantly as it cools.
- Adjust sugar to taste for more or less sweetness.
- Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Optional: add a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla for extra flavor.
