Description
These soft and chewy homemade Tootsie Rolls are a rich chocolate treat that’s perfect for snacking or gifting. Made with simple pantry ingredients, they taste just like the classic candy.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the light corn syrup, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a boil. Allow it to boil for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, stirring until the mixture becomes too thick to stir. Transfer to a clean surface and knead with your hands until smooth and pliable.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll each piece into a log about 1/2 inch in diameter. Place the logs onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Allow the Tootsie Rolls to cool completely and firm up before serving. Cut into bite-sized pieces if desired.
Notes
- If the dough is too sticky, lightly dust your hands with powdered sugar while kneading.
- Wrap individual pieces in wax paper for a classic candy look and easy gifting.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
