Description

These classic homemade waffles are crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and easy to make with basic pantry ingredients. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1¾ cups milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Lightly coat the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray or brush with oil.
  6. Pour batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer’s instructions, usually 3 to 5 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Repeat with remaining batter.
  8. Serve immediately with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter; a few lumps are okay.
  • Waffles are best served fresh but can be frozen and reheated in a toaster.
  • Customize with add-ins like chocolate chips or blueberries.
  • For extra crispy waffles, increase cooking time slightly or keep cooked waffles warm in a 200°F oven while finishing the batch.
