Description

This Honey Butter Chicken is crispy, juicy, and coated in a sweet and savory honey butter sauce. It’s a quick and flavorful dish that’s perfect for weeknight dinners or serving over rice for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 500g (1.1 lbs) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix chicken pieces with buttermilk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the fridge.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour and cornstarch.
  3. Remove chicken from marinade and coat each piece in the flour mixture. Press well to ensure the coating sticks.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken in batches until golden and crispy, about 5–6 minutes per batch. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add honey, soy sauce, and chili flakes. Stir and simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Toss the fried chicken in the warm honey butter sauce until fully coated.
  7. Serve immediately with rice, mashed potatoes, or your preferred sides.

Notes

  • Marinating the chicken in buttermilk helps tenderize and flavor it deeply.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature around 350°F (175°C) for best frying results.
  • You can adjust the spice level by increasing or omitting chili flakes.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in an oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
