These Apple Crisp Bars are a delicious twist on traditional apple crisp, featuring a buttery oat crust, sweet spiced apple filling, and a crumbly topping. Perfect for fall gatherings or an anytime dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2–3 apples)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Press about two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
- In another bowl, mix diced apples with flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture evenly over the top of the apples.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting them out and slicing into squares.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
- Bars store well in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
- Can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
