Description

A refreshing homemade iced chai latte made with a blend of black tea, spices, milk, and sweetener. Perfectly chilled and customizable, this drink is ideal for warm days or as a cozy alternative to coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 6 cardamom pods, slightly crushed
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 2 black tea bags
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons brown sugar or sweetener of choice
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • Ice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, star anise (if using), ginger, and peppercorns. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
  3. Add the tea bags and steep for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags and strain the mixture to remove spices.
  4. Stir in brown sugar or sweetener while the tea is still warm until dissolved.
  5. Let the spiced tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
  6. To serve, fill a glass with ice, pour in half tea and half milk, and stir to combine.
  7. Adjust sweetness or milk ratio to taste and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • You can prepare the spiced tea concentrate ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Use your favorite milk—almond, oat, soy, or whole milk—for different flavor profiles.
  • Customize the spice level by adjusting the amount or type of spices used.
