Description

Easy Instant Pot Black Beans made from scratch with simple ingredients. These beans are tender, flavorful, and perfect for meal prep, tacos, burritos, salads, and more.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound (2 cups) dried black beans, rinsed and sorted
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 4 cups water or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Rinse and sort the dried black beans, removing any debris.
  2. Add the beans, onion, garlic, bay leaf, cumin, chili powder, salt, and water or broth to the Instant Pot.
  3. Secure the lid and set the valve to sealing.
  4. Cook on High Pressure for 30 minutes.
  5. Allow the pressure to release naturally for 15–20 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure.
  6. Remove the bay leaf and stir. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.

Notes

  • No soaking is required for this recipe.
  • For softer beans, cook an additional 5 minutes under high pressure.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Beans can be frozen for up to 3 months.
