Easy Instant Pot Black Beans made from scratch with simple ingredients. These beans are tender, flavorful, and perfect for meal prep, tacos, burritos, salads, and more.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (2 cups) dried black beans, rinsed and sorted
- 1 small yellow onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 4 cups water or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Rinse and sort the dried black beans, removing any debris.
- Add the beans, onion, garlic, bay leaf, cumin, chili powder, salt, and water or broth to the Instant Pot.
- Secure the lid and set the valve to sealing.
- Cook on High Pressure for 30 minutes.
- Allow the pressure to release naturally for 15–20 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure.
- Remove the bay leaf and stir. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.
Notes
- No soaking is required for this recipe.
- For softer beans, cook an additional 5 minutes under high pressure.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Beans can be frozen for up to 3 months.
