These irresistible Banana Bread Brownies combine the moist, flavorful taste of banana bread with the rich texture of brownies, all topped with a decadent brown butter frosting.
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 3 bananas, mashed
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
- ⅓ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Mash the bananas in a mixing bowl until smooth and stir in the cinnamon.
- In a large bowl, beat together sugar, softened butter, sour cream, and eggs until creamy. Add the vanilla extract and mashed bananas, mixing until combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three batches, stirring until just combined. Fold in walnuts if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared dish and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
- For the frosting, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown.
- Whisk in the powdered sugar one cup at a time, then add vanilla extract and milk. Mix until smooth and thickened.
- Pour the warm frosting over the slightly cooled brownies and spread evenly.
- Let the brownies cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
