Description

These irresistible soft pretzel bites are golden, chewy, and buttery with a soft interior. Perfect as a party snack or appetizer, they’re easy to make with simple ingredients and taste just like the ones from the mall.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup baking soda (for boiling water)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing after baking)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in salt and sugar. Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and cut into 1-inch bites.
  8. Working in batches, boil the pretzel bites for about 20 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the bites with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush warm pretzel bites with melted butter and serve.

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle garlic powder or cinnamon sugar after baking.
  • You can freeze unbaked bites and boil/bake later for fresh pretzels anytime.
