Description
Kalter Hund is a nostalgic German no-bake dessert made by layering rich chocolate with crunchy butter biscuits. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
- 1 pack butter biscuits (200–250 g)
- 200 g dark chocolate
- 60 g butter
- 1 egg (optional, traditional version)
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp sugar
Instructions
- Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave.
- Stir in the cocoa powder and sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- (Optional) Let the mixture cool slightly, then whisk in the egg off-heat if using the traditional version.
- Line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Layer butter biscuits and the chocolate mixture alternately in the pan, starting and ending with chocolate.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 4–6 hours or until firm.
- Remove from the pan, slice, and serve chilled.
Notes
- Use pasteurized egg or skip the egg for a safer version.
- Decorate with grated chocolate or coconut flakes for a festive touch.
