Description

Kalter Hund is a nostalgic German no-bake dessert made by layering rich chocolate with crunchy butter biscuits. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack butter biscuits (200250 g)
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 egg (optional, traditional version)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave.
  2. Stir in the cocoa powder and sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. (Optional) Let the mixture cool slightly, then whisk in the egg off-heat if using the traditional version.
  4. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  5. Layer butter biscuits and the chocolate mixture alternately in the pan, starting and ending with chocolate.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for 4–6 hours or until firm.
  7. Remove from the pan, slice, and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Use pasteurized egg or skip the egg for a safer version.
