Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons boiling water
- 1 teaspoon dry active yeast
- 8 ounces all-purpose flour (about 2 cups)
- 1 1/2 ounces sugar (about 3 tablespoons)
- 1 egg
- 1 ounce butter, melted (about 2 tablespoons)
- Dash of salt
- Oil for frying
- 1/3 cup butter (for glaze)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons hot water (or as needed for glaze)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine milk and boiling water. Let cool to warm, then stir in the yeast and set aside for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter.
- Place doughnuts on a baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts for about 1 minute per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- To make the glaze, melt butter and mix with powdered sugar, vanilla, and hot water until smooth.
- Dip warm doughnuts into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set before serving.

- Do not overcrowd the fryer to maintain oil temperature.
