Description
Mayak Eggs (Korean Marinated Eggs) are soft or medium-boiled eggs marinated in a flavorful soy sauce mixture with garlic, green onions, and chili peppers. These addictive eggs are perfect served over warm rice as a side dish or quick meal.
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey or corn syrup
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 fresh red chili, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently add the eggs. Boil for 6–7 minutes for jammy centers or 9–10 minutes for fully set yolks.
- Transfer the eggs immediately to an ice bath and let cool completely. Peel the eggs carefully.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, water, sugar, honey (or corn syrup), minced garlic, green onions, sliced chili, sesame seeds, and sesame oil. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Place the peeled eggs in a container and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are fully submerged.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for deeper flavor.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature over rice with extra marinade spooned on top.
Notes
- For best flavor, marinate the eggs overnight.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Adjust sweetness or spice level to taste.
- Serve with steamed rice and drizzle extra marinade for added flavor.
