Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (from 12 oranges)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until the dough forms.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar once fully cooled for a pretty finish.
