Description
This oven roasted garlic recipe transforms whole garlic bulbs into soft, caramelized, and spreadable cloves with a rich, sweet flavor. Perfect for spreading on bread, mixing into mashed potatoes, or adding depth to sauces and dressings.
Ingredients
- 2 whole garlic bulbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice off the top 1/4 inch of each garlic bulb to expose the cloves.
- Place the garlic bulbs on a piece of aluminum foil or in a small baking dish.
- Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the exposed cloves, allowing it to seep into the bulbs.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper if using.
- Wrap the garlic tightly in foil or cover the baking dish.
- Roast for 35–45 minutes, until the cloves are soft and lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before squeezing the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins.
Notes
- Roasted garlic can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- For longer storage, mash the roasted garlic and freeze in small portions.
- Use roasted garlic in spreads, pasta, soups, dressings, or mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
- Adjust roasting time depending on bulb size and desired caramelization.
