Description
This Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast combines the luxurious richness of crème brûlée with the comforting texture of French toast. The bread soaks up a custard mixture overnight, resulting in a crispy, golden top and a soft, gooey center. It’s a show-stopping breakfast that’s perfect for special occasions.
Ingredients
1 loaf of French bread, sliced into 1-inch thick pieces
8 large eggs
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of French bread in the dish in a slightly overlapping fashion.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, making sure all pieces are soaked. Press the bread down gently to ensure it absorbs the liquid.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to soak up the custard mixture.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the French toast for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy, and the center is set.
- Once baked, remove the dish from the oven. Sprinkle the top with 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
- Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it’s golden and crispy, just like a crème brûlée.
- Serve warm and enjoy!

- You can top the French toast with fresh berries, caramelized bananas, or drizzle with maple syrup for extra flavor.
- If you don’t have a kitchen torch, use a broiler to caramelize the sugar for 2-3 minutes.
