Description

These Parmesan Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms are a savory and crowd-pleasing appetizer, perfect for parties or gatherings. Featuring a flavorful sausage and cream cheese filling, they’re baked to golden perfection with a cheesy topping.

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces white button mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3/4 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, divided
  • 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel and remove stems. Finely chop the stems and set aside. Arrange mushroom caps on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add chopped mushroom stems and garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until softened.
  5. Remove skillet from heat. Add cream cheese, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and half of the chopped parsley. Mix until fully combined.
  6. Spoon the filling into each mushroom cap, slightly mounding the mixture.
  7. Top each stuffed mushroom with shredded Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender and the tops are golden.
  9. Remove from oven and garnish with remaining parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can prepare the filling in advance and store in the fridge until ready to use.
  • Choose mushrooms of similar size for even cooking.
  • Spicy Italian sausage adds extra flavor, but mild works well too.
