Description
Queijadas are traditional Portuguese custard cupcakes with a lightly caramelized top and a creamy, sweet interior. These handheld desserts are simple to make and deliver rich flavor with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin pans with 18 cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs until frothy.
- Add milk, sugar, flour, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined and smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the tops are golden and lightly browned.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- The custard will puff up during baking and settle as it cools.
- Store queijadas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
- These cupcakes are best enjoyed at room temperature or slightly chilled.
