Description

This shrimp in red sauce recipe is a quick and healthy dinner featuring juicy shrimp simmered in a flavorful tomato-based sauce with herbs and spices. Perfect for serving over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 lb raw shrimp (medium size, peeled and deveined)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Stir in chopped parsley and serve hot over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Adjust red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
  • Fresh herbs can be used instead of dried for more flavor.
  • Can be served with pasta, rice, quinoa, or bread.
  • Use frozen shrimp (thawed) for convenience.
