This Skillet Garlic Lemon Butter Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish made with tender chicken breasts simmered in a rich garlic-lemon butter sauce. Perfect for weeknights, it’s easy to make in under 30 minutes and pairs well with rice, pasta, or veggies.
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 2 large breasts, sliced in half lengthwise)
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- ⅓ cup low sodium chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (or more to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then dredge them lightly in flour, shaking off the excess.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and sear for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet, then stir in the minced garlic. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the chicken broth and lemon juice. Use a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes, then stir in the lemon zest and chopped parsley.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, spoon the sauce over the top, and cook for another minute or until warmed through.
- Garnish with lemon slices and additional parsley if desired. Serve immediately.

- Use thin chicken cutlets or pound thicker breasts to even thickness for faster and even cooking.
