Description

This Sloppy Joe Skillet Dinner is a quick, one-pan meal that combines the savory flavors of classic sloppy joes with pasta for a comforting and satisfying family-friendly dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor.
  4. Add tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet. Stir to submerge the pasta in the sauce.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Remove from heat. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, cover again, and let it sit for a few minutes until the cheese is melted.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef for a lighter version.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta as needed.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
