Description
This Sloppy Joe Skillet Dinner is a quick, one-pan meal that combines the savory flavors of classic sloppy joes with pasta for a comforting and satisfying family-friendly dish.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 1/2 medium green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor.
- Add tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet. Stir to submerge the pasta in the sauce.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, cover again, and let it sit for a few minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef for a lighter version.
- Add a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.
- Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta as needed.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
