Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) sloppy joe sauce (like Manwich)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Non-stick cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the sloppy joe sauce, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture.
- Arrange the tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top. Return to oven for 5 more minutes until melted.
- Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
