Description

Soft and buttery homemade rolls with a tender texture and rich flavor, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

1 cup warm milk

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup melted butter

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon butter (for brushing after baking)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, salt, and eggs. Add the frothy milk-yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.
  7. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown on top.
  9. Brush the hot rolls with melted butter for an extra touch of richness.

Notes

  1. For garlic butter rolls, add minced garlic to the melted butter before brushing over the rolls.
  2. To make herb rolls, mix in finely chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme into the dough.
  3. For cheese-stuffed rolls, place a small cube of cheese in the center of each roll before shaping into a ball.
  4. For sweet rolls, add a tablespoon of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg to the dough.
  5. Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  6. Freeze unbaked rolls before the second rise for longer storage.
  7. To reheat, wrap rolls in foil and warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
