Description

These soft pretzel bites are chewy, golden brown, and sprinkled with coarse salt. Perfect as a party snack or game day appetizer, they’re easy to make and even more delicious dipped in cheese sauce or mustard.


Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups (360ml) warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 1 packet active dry or instant yeast (2 and 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • 2/3 cup (160g) baking soda
  • 9 cups (2,160ml) water for boiling

Instructions

  1. Whisk warm water and yeast together in a large bowl. Let sit for 1 minute.
  2. Add salt and sugar, then slowly mix in the flour. Mix and knead the dough for 3–4 minutes until it is thick and slightly tacky.
  3. Shape into a ball, place in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rest in a warm environment for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  5. Cut dough into 6 sections. Roll each into a 20-inch rope and cut into 1.5-inch pieces.
  6. Boil water and baking soda. Drop 8–10 pretzel bites into boiling water for 20 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on baking sheets.
  7. Brush each with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Freeze baked and cooled pretzel bites for up to 3 months.
