Description

Sour Cream Noodle Bake is a rich and comforting casserole made with tender egg noodles, seasoned ground beef, a creamy sour cream and cottage cheese mixture, and plenty of melted cheddar cheese baked to bubbly perfection. This hearty, family-friendly dish is perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until fully browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Simmer for about 5 minutes to blend flavors. Remove from heat.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine sour cream, cottage cheese, and sliced green onions. Mix until well blended.
  6. Add cooked noodles to the sour cream mixture and stir gently until evenly coated.
  7. Spread half of the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers, ending with the remaining meat sauce.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for a lighter option.
  • Add sautéed vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • Ricotta cheese can replace cottage cheese for a smoother texture.
  • Do not overbake to prevent the casserole from drying out.
