Description

These homemade sourdough croutons are crispy, flavorful, and easy to make. Perfect for topping salads or soups, they use just a few simple ingredients and are baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sourdough bread, cut into 3/4” cubes (about ½ lb)
  • 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed sourdough bread, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss well to evenly coat.
  3. Spread the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the croutons are golden brown and crisp.
  5. Let the croutons cool to room temperature before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Use day-old or slightly stale sourdough bread for best texture.
  • Store cooled croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • Customize seasonings to your taste—try adding Italian herbs or Parmesan.
