These homemade sourdough croutons are crispy, flavorful, and easy to make. Perfect for topping salads or soups, they use just a few simple ingredients and are baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 4 cups sourdough bread, cut into 3/4” cubes (about ½ lb)
- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed sourdough bread, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss well to evenly coat.
- Spread the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the croutons are golden brown and crisp.
- Let the croutons cool to room temperature before serving or storing.
Notes
- Use day-old or slightly stale sourdough bread for best texture.
- Store cooled croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Customize seasonings to your taste—try adding Italian herbs or Parmesan.
