Description

Southern Fried Salmon Patties are a crispy, flavorful dish combining fresh salmon, seasonings, and breadcrumbs, creating a savory treat perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

2 cans (6 oz each) of pink or red salmon, drained and flaked

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (optional)

1 large egg

1 cup breadcrumbs (or more as needed)

1/4 cup milk

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flaked salmon, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper (if using), egg, breadcrumbs, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined. If the mixture is too wet, add additional breadcrumbs until it reaches a thick, moldable consistency.
  2. Form the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter, pressing gently to shape.
  3. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the skillet, cooking in batches if necessary. Fry the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the patties from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or sides.

Notes

  1. For a spicy kick, add a chopped jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  2. Herb-infused patties can be made by adding fresh or dried herbs like parsley, thyme, or dill.
  3. For an egg-free option, use a flax egg or a tablespoon of mayonnaise.
  4. Adding grated zucchini or carrots can boost the texture and nutrition.
  5. Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
  6. To reheat, place patties in a skillet for 2-3 minutes per side or reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes until crispy.
