Description

A warm, comforting spiced prune compote recipe infused with cinnamon, cloves, and orange zest. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a nutritious snack, this dish is naturally sweet, rich in fiber, and easy to make.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried prunes
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 strip of orange peel (from 1/2 orange, avoid the white pith)
  • 1 tbsp orange juice

Instructions

  1. Place the prunes in a small saucepan and add 2 cups of water.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and strip of orange peel.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25-30 minutes, until the prunes are soft and the liquid has reduced into a light syrup.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the orange juice.
  6. Let the compote cool to room temperature or serve warm, as desired.
  7. Remove the spices before serving if preferred.
