Description
Crispy baked tofu coated in a sticky, sweet, and tangy orange sesame sauce. This gluten-free dish is flavorful, satisfying, and perfect for a plant-based meal.
Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu (drained and cubed)
- 1 tbsp tapioca flour
- 1/3 cup gluten-free soy sauce
- 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 tbsp orange zest
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cut the drained tofu into 1-inch cubes.
- Wrap tofu cubes in paper towels and gently press to remove excess moisture.
- In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, tomato paste, orange juice, orange zest, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and salt. Mix well.
- Add tofu cubes to the marinade and toss gently. Let sit for 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor).
- Remove tofu from the marinade using tongs and place in a clean bowl. Reserve the marinade.
- Sprinkle tapioca flour over the tofu and toss gently until coated.
- Arrange tofu on a lined or lightly oiled baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, until golden and slightly crisp.
- Pour the reserved marinade into a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, until thick and sticky.
- Toss baked tofu in the sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve.
Notes
- For a vegan option, substitute honey with maple syrup.
- Pressing tofu longer improves texture and crispiness.
- Serve with rice, noodles, or steamed vegetables.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a pan for best texture.
