Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (optional, to adjust dough consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Add milk if dough is too dry.
  6. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating or serving.
