Description

This easy Teriyaki Chicken recipe features tender, juicy chicken breasts smothered in a rich, sweet, and savory homemade teriyaki sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner and better than takeout!


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water (for slurry)
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chicken breasts and cook for 5–7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, 1/2 cup water, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  4. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water to make a slurry. Add to the skillet and stir constantly until sauce thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
  5. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and coat with the teriyaki sauce. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts for a juicier option.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
