Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 cup chopped Thai basil (or regular basil)
  • Butter lettuce leaves, for serving
  • Chopped green onions and shredded carrots, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Add garlic, shallot, and red bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, rice vinegar, and Sriracha. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing flavors to combine.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in chopped Thai basil.
  6. Spoon the chicken mixture into butter lettuce leaves.
  7. Top with chopped green onions and shredded carrots if desired, and serve immediately.
