Description
This classic lasagna recipe is layered with a rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta mixture, and plenty of mozzarella cheese, making it the ultimate comfort food dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (24 oz) jars marinara sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, sausage, and diced onion until browned. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Drain excess grease, then stir in the marinara sauce, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, basil, oregano, and salt until well combined.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over noodles, sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella, and top with 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat layers two more times, ending with the meat sauce on top.
- Sprinkle remaining 1 cup mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let lasagna rest for 15–20 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Lasagna can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
- Letting the lasagna rest before cutting helps it hold its shape when served.
- Use no-boil noodles for convenience, adjusting liquid in the sauce as needed.
