Description

This classic lasagna recipe is layered with a rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta mixture, and plenty of mozzarella cheese, making it the ultimate comfort food dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (24 oz) jars marinara sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, sausage, and diced onion until browned. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. Drain excess grease, then stir in the marinara sauce, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, basil, oregano, and salt until well combined.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over noodles, sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella, and top with 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat layers two more times, ending with the meat sauce on top.
  7. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let lasagna rest for 15–20 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Lasagna can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
  • Letting the lasagna rest before cutting helps it hold its shape when served.
  • Use no-boil noodles for convenience, adjusting liquid in the sauce as needed.
