Description

This Triple Berry French Toast Casserole is a delicious make-ahead breakfast dish featuring layers of bread, a rich custard, and a mix of berries. Perfect for holidays or brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 12 cups)
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • Butter or non-stick spray (for greasing baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Place half of the bread cubes in the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle half of the berries evenly over the bread.
  4. Repeat with the remaining bread and berries to form a second layer.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and berries.
  7. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature while the oven preheats.
  10. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  11. While the casserole bakes, prepare the glaze by mixing the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the warm casserole before serving.

Notes

  • You can use frozen berries instead of fresh—just don’t thaw them first.
  • Letting the casserole sit overnight allows the flavors to meld better.
  • Serve with maple syrup for added sweetness.
  • Use brioche or challah for a richer flavor.
