Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 12 cups)
- 1 cup strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup raspberries
- 8 large eggs
- 2 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- Butter or non-stick spray (for greasing baking dish)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Place half of the bread cubes in the prepared dish.
- Sprinkle half of the berries evenly over the bread.
- Repeat with the remaining bread and berries to form a second layer.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and berries.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature while the oven preheats.
- Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set.
- While the casserole bakes, prepare the glaze by mixing the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm casserole before serving.
Notes
- You can use frozen berries instead of fresh—just don’t thaw them first.
- Letting the casserole sit overnight allows the flavors to meld better.
- Serve with maple syrup for added sweetness.
- Use brioche or challah for a richer flavor.
