Description

This turkey meatloaf is moist, flavorful, and topped with a delicious ketchup-based glaze. Made with simple ingredients and lean ground turkey, it’s a healthier take on the classic comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ⅓ cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 pounds ground turkey (93% lean)
  • ½ cup plain dried breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and set an oven rack in the middle position.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until softened, about 5 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked onion and garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, chicken broth, tomato paste, ground turkey, breadcrumbs, and eggs. Mix until just combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a foil-lined baking sheet and shape into a 9×5-inch loaf.
  5. In a small bowl, stir together the ketchup, brown sugar, and cider vinegar. Spread half of the glaze evenly over the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, then spread the remaining glaze over the top. Continue baking for 15-20 minutes more, until cooked through (internal temperature should be 165°F).
  7. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use 93% lean ground turkey for the best balance of moisture and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Try serving with mashed potatoes and green beans for a classic comfort meal.
