Description
This authentic Greek tzatziki sauce is a creamy and refreshing dip made with Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, and fresh dill. It’s perfect as a dip, sauce for grilled dishes, or a spread in wraps and sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grated cucumber (about 1 small cucumber)
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (preferably whole milk)
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
- 1 medium clove garlic, pressed or minced
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
Instructions
- Grate the cucumber using the large holes of a box grater. Place in a fine-mesh sieve or wrap in a clean kitchen towel, and squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible.
- In a medium bowl, combine the grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, dill, garlic, and salt.
- Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed (more lemon juice, salt, or dill).
- Chill for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld before serving.
- Serve with pita, raw veggies, or as a sauce for grilled meats or falafel.
Notes
- For best texture and flavor, use full-fat Greek yogurt.
- Remove as much water as possible from the cucumber to avoid watery tzatziki.
- Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Can be made a few hours in advance for deeper flavor.
